A Fresh Look at at Berkeley’s CellScope

by ashleyrjohnson

UC Berkeley’s Science Review magazine has a fresh look at Dan Fletcher’s microscope attachment for cell phones.  The phone uses a 60X optical lens, a 20X eyepiece, and optics embedded within the cell phone to attain 3 megapixel resolution.  Field testing will begin soon. The group is also developing a software package for the microscope that will automatically count cells with a specified amount of dye. This should add efficiency and reduce  human error in reading stained samples, such as those used to diagnose TB.
