XoutTB has been selected for funding by the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation towards the evaluation of a clinical trial in Karachi, Pakistan, an IIH H-Lab site under the direction of a Dr. Aamir Khan and his colleagues at InterActive Research and Development. The funding provides an exciting development in the application of a multidisciplinary approach to compliance of tuberculosis treatment. XoutTB combines novel diagnostics, telemedicine and incentives to keep patients on track with their tuberculosis medication. The project began as a 2007 MIT IDEAS competition winner and has since become an IIH project with R&D in Cambridge, Nicaragua and Pakistan.

I’m glad to see this initiative is actually taking place in a developing country, being these places the most affected by the plague of tuberculosis.
